Samburu Village, Kenya

In 2012, while visiting the Samburu villages of Kenya for the first time, I was struck by how content and loving the women and children were towards each other, towards me as a visitor, and with their simple life in the Rift Valley Province. The vibrant colors of their hand-beaded jewelry beautify their already stunning appearance. Children run, laugh, and are incredibly curious and free. A much more traditional people than the Masaai, the Samburu have long been an independent and egalitarian society. They relocate every 5 to 6 weeks to ensure their cattle can feed themselves.

I captured these lovely Samburu women enjoying a moment of repose. My etching of the little boy seated in his mother’s arms was included in the exhibition of the 33rd Mini Print International de Cadaqués, Barcelona, Spain.
